Saturday, Day #10 The Heart of Worship

Hard to believe that this is day #10, we are 1/4 of the way. Even as I read, I feel that I am beginning a new journey (guess that's the point).

The heart of worship is surrender.

Surrendering is unthinkable!

We give ourselves to him, not out of fear or duty, but in love.

Offering yourself to God is what worship is all about.

Three barriers that block our total surrender to god; fear, pride and confusion.
Fear; Can I trust God? You can't trust God, until you know him. He gave us his son.
Pride; Admitting our limitations. We have to admit that we are not in charge.
Confusion; What it means to surrender. The more we let God take over, the more truly ourselves we become.

Another aspect of a fully surrendered life is trust. Follow without knowing where, when, how or why.

The greatness of a man's power is the measure of his surrender.

If you don't surrender to Christ, you surrender to chaos.

Surrender is not the best way to live, it's the only way to live.

If people want to follow me, they must give up the things they want. They must be willing to give up their lives and follow me.

In what areas am I holding back? I feel like a work in progress. I know what I should do, what I want to do, but I don't necessarily do it. With ever increasing awareness, I see that I am not bringing joy to God, but also with ever increasing awareness, I see what I need to do and want to do. Lord, please have patience with me.

Dear loving Father, when I think of all you've done for me, I want to surrender all my life to your will. I want to give up my need to control things and to trust in you instead. Help me to hold back nothing from you today.

  1. The country singer Carrie Underwood sings a great song called "Jesus Take the Wheel" that I think sums this up perfectly:

    "Jesus take the wheel
    Take it from my hands
'cause I can't do this on my own
    I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on
    Jesus take the wheel"
